For many, many years, the bald eagle has been an iconic symbol of America. As an icon of American patriotism, it represents our freedom, our democracy and the very soul of our nation.
But our world is constantly changing, and in such times, we must ask ourselves: Has the bald eagle maintained…
Nationwide, college students today tend to favor the Democratic Party. The Fall 2024 Harvard Youth Poll, which is a national poll conducted by the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School, found that Vice President Kamala Harris decisively leads former President Donald Trump by 31 points…
Students prefer to make statements rather than converse in this election season.
Early this morning, three protestors from the Occupation Free Notre Dame group placed a cardboard missile and sign at the university’s Main Gate on Notre Dame Avenue. The missile read “ND funds death” and the sign read “We’re a Catholic University funding genocide.” It was signed by OFND.

Hi, Notre Dame. My name is Alyssa, and I’m a first-year student in Ryan Hall. A little about me — I am very first-year. Very student. I pull up Google Maps every time I leave Ryan Hall. If you use a bike or skateboard or anything with wheels, there’s a 90% chance you have or will have run me over…
During the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, athletes broke world records, represented their home nations and racked up medals. In addition to the colors of their country’s flag, current and former Notre Dame competitors represented the blue and gold in Paris as well. In total, this group won 10 medals.…

At the University of Notre Dame, football games are more than just sports events — they are cultural touchstones that reflect tradition, pride and the Fighting Irish spirit. The idea of leaving early, then, can feel…
Celebrating the Inauguration of Fr. Dowd as the University's 18th President
On Sept. 13, 2024, the University of Notre Dame inaugurated its 18th president, Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C. But this momentous occasion was not just a singular event, it was a week-long celebration. From a feast on Library Lawn to the Inaugural Ball held in Notre Dame Stadium, few students and faculty…
“Ad multos annos,” which in Latin means, “for many more years,” represents the legacy of St. Thomas Aquinas’s contributions to Catholicism, culture and philosophy during the 800th anniversary of his birth this week.
To celebrate, Notre Dame hosted a four-day conference…
The celebration of Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C.’s Inauguration kicked off with a campus-wide picnic on Wednesday, Sept. 11. It’s a bright, sunny Thursday afternoon, and you and your fellow students are piling into the dining halls after 11 a.m. classes. Imagining the beautiful Southwest Salad at North Dining Hall has gotten you through the day, and the time has finally come. You swipe your card, smiling at the dining hall…
I spent the summer at a shelter for the unhoused. The Supreme Court has it all wrong.
About five days into my summer internship, a woman came in and asked for a blanket. I’ll call her Diane. That’s not the name I knew her by — I’m not sure if the name I knew her by was her real name either.…
March 15, 6:42 p.m. To any other person, this arbitrary time has no significance, and most won't even notice it passing on the clock. For prospective Domers, though, this is the most important 6:42 p.m. of their life. As the clock ticks, the minds of those high school seniors race in anticipation…
A colorful cascade of brightly flashing lights illuminate the sky at the inaugural ball, forming the shape of a green four-leaf clover. What’s this? Has the university found some way to dye the stars in the shape of a shamrock? If so, major props to the astrophysicists.
Notre Dame, it seems,…
Dr. Margaret Pfeil is a professor at Notre Dame and holds joint appointments in the Department of Theology and the Center for Social Concerns. When Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni were announced as the leads of Colleen Hoover’s hit novel, “It Ends with Us,” the internet exploded. Lively, a star since “Gossip Girl,” and Baldoni, the heartthrob of “Jane the Virgin,” couldn’t have been more appealing to Hoover’s romance-obsessed fandom. However,…
Replacing a beloved main character is never easy. Do you quietly recast the actor, like Aunt Viv in “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”? Do you slowly reduce his role until there’s nothing left, like Mark Brendanawicz in “Parks and Recreation”? Do you [spoiler alert] the [spoiler alert] right in front of…
As the Fighting Irish football team prepared themselves for a game in the nation’s toughest stadium to play in, I, a Notre Dame senior donned in Irish green, stood proudly in the front row of the Aggie student section. I had enjoyed true College Station festivities leading up to the game, including…
