The hit competition reality show “Survivor” first crossed our television screens in 2000 and has been on air ever since, with its 50th season premiering this month. In a recent social media post, host, showrunner and producer Jeff Probst announced that we can expect a huge twist from “Survivor” 51: “We’ve been doing this show for 25 years,” Probst said. “We’ve been to some of the harshest climates and most dangerous locations in the world — from the Australian Outback to the African wilderness to the Amazon rainforest. For Season 51, we are bringing ‘Survivor’ somewhere more brutal, more unforgiving than ever before: a US college campus.”

“Survivor: Notre Dame” will premiere in Fall 2026 to audiences across America. This season’s cast is unique in that it is composed entirely of members of the Notre Dame community. However, “Survivor” still promises to deliver “a microcosm of society,” with the same variety of archetypes, characters and dynamics we have come to know and love. Notre Dame’s star quarterback CJ Carr is a confirmed cast member — but will his star power and athleticism mean anything to his future tribemate Provost John McGreevy? Can the student body vice president learn to work with the burnout-stoner WVFI announcer? How will longskirt- wearing vegetarian Audrey Alexander respond to gym rat and protein fiend Nick Wade’s insistence on hunting and eating a wild squirrel? Will things get awkward when a castaway gets put on the same beach as her professor (St. Joseph's beach), after sending in a fraudulent St. Liam’s sick note? Turns out that “immunocompromised” was code for immunity idol!

 

One huge benefit of filming in the States is that CBS is saving a ton of money — no plane tickets, and no paying off the Fijian government to let them film there. This means more budget space for things like challenges and rewards. In a teaser clip released last Wednesday, we got a sneak peek at one of the most grueling and seemingly impossible reward challenges of the season — castaways are forced to fight their way through an intricate and claustrophobic maze known as “Stadium Lot on a Game Day,” with a case of Surfsides at stake for the winning tribe. Other rumoured rewards include 10 minutes of TikTok time and one round of The New York Times Connections to whoever can stay in North Dining Hall the longest without eating a cookie. Immunity challenges are sure to be even more daunting. In one challenge, castaways must attempt to leave the opposite sex’s dorm after parietals without running into a priest, rector or RA.

 

Whoever can outwit, outplay and outlast the competition will be crowned the winner of “Survivor: Notre Dame” and claim the million flex point prize that comes with it.
