A late-2019 drama that has continued to garner acclaim into 2020, Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” offers a two-hour jaunt through the Clue board game-style mansion of the fictional, celebrated mystery author Harlan Thrombey. When Thrombey is found dead the morning after a contentious birthday party with his family, Southern gentleman detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) finds himself immersed in a world of intrigue both farcical and tragic. Through examining Thrombey’s family — an opportunistic and scheming, yet often comical, bunch, constantly at one another’s throats — Blanc must solve the case as chaos breaks loose. “Knives Out” distinguishes itself as a contemporary twist on the traditional whodunnit, boasting a star-studded cast and a visually rich set and costumes. Punctuated by a stirring soundtrack and woven through with a delightfully unpredictable plot, “Knives Out” is not to be missed.
