At 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, amidst the general buzz of excitement for Saturday’s home football game against Boise State, fans gathered around a half-court in the Eddy Street Commons for the first-ever “Irish Jam,” a free outdoor event celebrating Notre Dame basketball and the South Bend community.

The evening began with remarks from Glenn and Stacey Murphy Head Men’s Basketball Coach Micah Shrewsberry, and Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Women’s Head Basketball Coach Niele Ivey. Then, the men’s and women’s basketball teams were introduced by thunderous applause in their new black-and-gold “The Bend” jerseys and shorts featuring South Bend’s flag, with lines representing the St. Joseph River. Fans caught promotional basketballs, took photos with players and cheered as the teams prepared for the competition.

The highlight of the evening was a co-ed team showdown. Fan-voted captains, Hannah Hidalgo of Shamrock City and Markus Burton of Irish Jammers, led teams of men’s and women’s players in three All-Star-style events: a 3-point contest, a skills challenge and a shooting stars competition. Shamrock City won 2-1, capped by a half-court shot from Hidalgo.

The event wrapped up a few minutes before 8 p.m., leaving fans excited to see this season's promising roster of players in action.
