Just one final sprint to the finish line, Notre Dame — you can do it. Scholastic is here with one final issue for the semester. If you need some inspiration, or an excuse to kick back and relax, here it is: We have a full month’s worth of stories to carry you all the way to winter break.

There’s never a dull day around here. This fall alone, two Supreme Court Justices delivered major speeches on Notre Dame’s campus. Our cover story explores why so many prominent conservative jurists have paid visits to Notre Dame recently.

And if the cover story wasn’t enough, another thorough investigation is waiting for you in the opinion section: a deep-dive into South Bend’s public transportation shortage.

But it’s not all serious — we promise. There’s plenty of fun and games waiting for you in our sports section: profiles of two Irish athletes who are making a splash, a debate about the future of Mike Brey’s coaching career and some in-case-you-missed-it recaps of Irish athletics.

We’re more than halfway through the semester, with fall break already behind us. Some of us spent that break doing nothing at all; others traveled around the globe. You can read about the wide array of fall-break getaways in our news, culture and perspectives sections.

Maybe the passage of time bums you out a bit. I know it can do that to me. If you’re needing a little perspective on the matter, I’d highly recommend our news editor’s personal essay in the perspectives section. She’s managed to preserve some precious memories in some unusual mementos.

Go get ‘em, Irish,

Genevieve Redsten
