The number of consecutive season openers that the Notre Dame men’s cross country team has won with a perfect score. On Sept. 1, the Irish competed in the Crusader Open at Valparaiso, taking the top 5 finishing positions in the Men’s 6K. The team was led by freshman Yared Nuguse, who, with a time of 18:09.3 in his collegial debut, was named the ACC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week.

The number of goals scored by senior forward Jeff Farina in Notre Dame Men’s Soccer’s first three games, including two game-winning goals against Cal Poly and Connecticut. Farina’s hot start is made more impressive by the fact that he entered the season with six career goals.

1981

The last year that Notre Dame football played Georgia and only previous meeting between the two prestigious programs until Saturday’s loss. That game, the 1981 Sugar Bowl played in New Orleans, secured the national title for the No. 1 ranked Bulldogs, who, on the heels of eventual Heisman winner Herschel Walker, inched ahead of the Irish despite completing their first pass with two minutes remaining. Oh, how the game has changed...

This season marks the 30-year anniversary for Notre Dame Women’s Soccer. In the illustrious program’s history, the Irish have accumulated a record of 536-111- 38 to go along with three national championships, second only to the University of North Carolina.
