What was once a crowd favorite serving up acai bowls and quesadillas has now transitioned into a new sushi place. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, Flip Kitchen was replaced by Fujisan Sushi in Lafortune. While the exterior remains the same, the food is a whole new experience. This new concept features a multitude of sushi rolls, boba, potstickers, bao and more. Reviews from customers reveal the food to be “a 6 or 7” on a scale of 10, while the boba is praised as “equivalent to Krak Boba but without the walk.” One student explains that she rated the sushi as mediocre because it didn’t taste “fresh,” almost like grocery store sushi. Despite various complaints about the food, most can agree that the service was fast and efficient, making for a good “on-the-go” meal.

Many patrons also concur that while Fujisan is a “solid lunch if you are desperate,” it would have been better equipped to replace Street Fare. Not only was Flip Kitchen a LaFortune staple, but the food at Street Fare is more similar to Fujisan, selling sushi and bao already. The question remains: why replace Flip Kitchen when it was so successful? Good news for those upset about the disappearance of Flip is that their açai bowls are occasionally featured on the menu of Hagerty Cafe. In addition, there is a new smoothie machine in the entrance of North Dining Hall for those deprived of the fruits and vegetables that they sought in Flip smoothies.

Some were also skeptical of the quality of the raw fish, not only in Indiana but on a college campus. Another student reported having a stomachache shortly after consuming a roll containing raw tuna. The good news for those who are weary of the raw fish is that the menu also includes vegetarian options such as veggie rolls and seaweed salads. While the removal of Flip Kitchen might be controversial amongst the student body, hopefully, most will warm up to the wide variety of foods Fujisan has to offer.
