01: Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team was ranked 1 and 2 as they entered their match-up with #13/12 Duke on Sunday April 10. The Irish still only had one loss entering the game. Notre Dame and Duke have met 16 times, with the Blue Devils leading the series 10 to 6, though the teams have split games played in South Bend. The Duke game will be key in the Irish’s quest to win the ACC and to secure a national championship for the first time in the program’s history.

02: Brian Kelly announced that no decisions have been made between the two Irish quarterbacks competing to hold the starting spot in the fall. “I don’t think we’ll make a decision after spring,” Kelly says. This means that the battle between sophomore Deshone Kizer and junior Malik Zaire will continue into the heat of the summer. Kizer threw 21 touchdowns for 2884 yards last season after he took over following Zaire’s ankle injury in the UVA game. Zaire threw 4 touchdowns and posted a 187.9 efficiency rating in the two games he was able to start in 2015. Each brings a unique set of skills that warrant consideration for the starting job. Both Kizer and Zaire have rotated with the first offensive unit this spring, splitting the repetitions fairly evenly. Fans may not know who will lead the Irish in the 2016 season opener against Texas until the game’s recently changed date, Sept. 4.

03: The number of ND teams that played in their respective Sweet Sixteens on Friday, March 25. Never before had the men’s basketball team, women’s basketball team and hockey team all reached the round of 16 in their tournaments, let alone compete to advance to the next round on the same day. With staggered start times, fans could conceivably watch all of the women’s team’s stunning loss to Stanford, the hockey team’s heartbreaking OT thriller with Michigan and the men’s team’s epic comeback in the final minutes of its triumph over Wisconsin.

04: The number of games sophomore point guard Matt Farrell started this season. In those four NCAA tournament games, Farrell logged 107 minutes of playing time. During the regular season, he had only played 60. He shot 10 for 17 through the tournament and recorded a 2.8 assist to turnover ratio. Adding a second ball-handler helped the Irish on the Elite Eight run, as Farrell and PG Demetrius Jackson recorded a total of just 15 turnovers in the tournament. Farrell was also the only starter for the Irish to not record a turnover in either the Sweet Sixteen match-up against Wisconsin or their season-ending loss to North Carolina.
